Well, I'll be damned Here comes your ghost again But that's not unusual It's just that the moon is full And you happened to call And here I sit Hand on the telephone Hearing a voice I'd known A couple of light years ago Heading straight for a fall As I remember your eyes Were bluer than robin's eggs My poetry was lousy you said Where are you calling from?

No Replies Log in to reply. There was an error. General Comment No question this is about Bob Dylan. She has said so and so has he. I think the line about "I've already paid" means that she has nothing left to give him; the bitter outweighs the sweet and she doesn't want to dredge up their memories. General Comment People people, it's just not that complicated! The title simply is stating from Joan's point of view the inequity of the relationship.
Joan clearly is saying that she was there for him emotionally during a period in his life when he was "temporarily lost at sea" meaning a vulnerable scary place, maybe even going through an identity crisis, which isn't unusual with such successful artists and with as much fame as Dylan.

It's obvious she cared for him during this time as a mother would for a wounded child. But it wasn't an adult to adult relationship emotionally. He just wasn't capable of returning the favor and she got nada from him for emotional support when it came to her life and hard times. She brought diamonds to the relationship and all she got from him was rust.
It's supurb symbolism. And given that he thought her poetry was lousy I think she more than makes up for it with these lyrics. I put these lyrics in my top ten because of the raw sadness and pain that they are able to drudge up but also because it's that raw truth that comes through and her strength to say no to being in that position again.
I've already paid. General Comment I don't think Diamonds and Rust reveals 'tears and then dried. And 'rust'. Joan sings 'I've already paid'. There is another song that Joan sings for Bob.Go to Songsear. But now I'm here and I didn't want to come here?

I am looking for a song that was done at my dance recital in We need sad songs for the comfort they can provide. Bernie Taupin captured this sentiment best and hid it in a jaunty little pop song by Elton John:. Yes, sad songs do say so much. And these 50 songs helped the Paste staff to hurt so good. I tried to keep it to one song per artist but Johnny Cash ended up getting a pass.
This list barely scratches the surface of sad songs—or even sad songs that got nominated by our writers. If your favorite is missing, add it to the comments section below. Here are our 50 favorite of the saddest songs:.
This is a sad song with a secretly positive message. Tammy Wynette articulates the internal struggle of so many divorcees-to-be with children, the strain and ache in her warble serving as a vehicle for her overwhelming remorse. Matt Vasquez wrote this History From Below tearjerker as an ode to his late grandparents, who both passed away within a short timeframe. With such a delicate experience on his hands, he admitted that the choruses he came up with sounded too literal.
This song hit me at the perfect time in life, and seemed to capture a kind of ineffable melancholy that went beyond the girl I was pining over, and was instead an essential part of the human experience.
Here, Beam has accomplished nothing less than telling the story of our sadness. The imagery alone is gripping, but the gentle harmonies from Krauss are what push this mournful track into sob-worthy territory.
The 50 Saddest Songs of All Time
The music, for the most part, hangs back from his resigned vocals, clicking away like a bit of hospital machinery and only interrupted by a haunting piano roll and a fluttering bit of melodica. She sums up those natural feelings of jealousy when an ex moves on to someone new sooner than expected.
But instead of writing a dreary ballad about it, Robyn flipped the script. After one particular summer romance, I visited my girlfriend at her college two hours away, and the trip went horribly. From the time I arrived, I could tell she was over our relationship.Lyrics submitted by dankedited by HeofpeanutGrungyBeatle.

General Comment Although a valient effort by Sir Larrikin, I don't think people have looked deep enough here, or perhaps they are looking too deep. This song is about what almost every song is about - Love.
Everybody knows love. As his entire Graceland albulm, this song is heavily influenced by the South African culture Simon observed while working there.
He choses the perfect metaphore to describe the polar opposite positions of being in and out of love; the diamond trade. The diamond trade in S Africa created apartheide, setting up two of the most diametricaly opposed socio-economic classes in the modern world. As Sir Larrikin picked up on, this theme heavily influences the song. And while simon uses this metaphor for wealth, he means wealth of love.
He starts by identifying our two characters, the rich girl and the poor boy. The rich girl has diamonds on the soles of her shoes. To pick this apart, we physically interact with our world most frequently with our feet. Everywhere we go, our feet are the part of us that have constant contact, that provide the most constant source of interaction with our physical envronment.I first heard of the Beatles when I was nine years old. I spent most of my holidays on Merseyside then, and a local girl gave me a bad publicity shot of them with their names scrawled on the back.
The funny thing is that parents and all their friends from Liverpool were also curious and proud about this local group. Prior to that, the people in show business from the north of England had all been comedians.Bruno Mars - Grenade [Official Video]
The Beatles even recorded for Parlophone, which was a comedy label, as if they believed they might be a passing novelty act. I was exactly the right age to be hit by them full-on. My experience — seizing on every picture, saving money for singles and EPs, catching them on a local news show — was repeated over and over again around the world.
Every record was a shock. They had already absorbed Buddy Holly, the Everly Brothers and Chuck Berry, but they were also writing their own songs. They made writing your own material expected, rather than exceptional. Most important, they always fit right into the arrangement.
Ringo Starr played the drums with an incredibly unique feel that nobody can really copy, although many fine drummers have tried and failed. Most of all, John and Paul were fantastic singers. Lennon, McCartney and Harrison had stunningly high standards as writers.
These records were events, and not just advance notice of an album. They were the first group to mess with the aural perspective of their recordings and have it be more than just a gimmick.
My absolute favorite albums are Rubber Soul and Revolver. When you picked up Revolveryou knew it was something different. Heck, they are wearing sunglasses indoors in the picture on the back of the cover and not even looking at the camera. Their breakup album, Let It Becontains songs both gorgeous and jagged.Termination of services letter to vendor
I suppose ambition and human frailty creeps into every group, but they delivered some incredible performances. I left with a melancholy feeling. Someone recently gave me an assembly of newsreel footage, which illustrates how swiftly the band was drained of the bright and joyful wit presented as a public face.
It might have been practiced, but it plays entirely off-the-cuff. Just a year later, they are seen at a press conference in Los Angeles for their final tour. Suits and ties are a thing of the past.
Staring down a series of dismal attempts at provocation from the press corps, they look exhausted and disenchanted. You can hear that Kurt Cobain listened to the Beatles and mixed their ideas with punk and metal.Go to Songsear. A song, man's voice form late 90s early Its driving me crazy! Also before the chorus i remember there was a deep breath that's inhaled by the lyrics "There's no I'm looking for a song that's about being done with someone. I was young when I heard it so I don't remember much but I know that the gist was that the person was done with their significant other and was basically saying that they wouldn't jump through hoops for them to keep them satisfied anymore.
I know that it was sung by a man with a very raspy voice. I am looking for a song of late 80s. Thank you. Took one line and it instantly popped up.A Bedford woman who accidentally threw an heirloom diamond ring out in the trash dug through piles of rubbish at a Haverhill waste-to-energy plant the next day and found the glittering prize. Last Tuesday, she took the ring off to clean it, leaving it wrapped in a paper towel to dry.
Later that night, Sawyer saw the crumpled paper towel near the sink. Forgetting the ring was inside, she threw it out -- realizing that the ring was in it only after a trash collector had taken her garbage bag on Wednesday.
Workers there told her to contact trash collectors Allied Waste Services, she said. She found out that her trash truck had been headed to the Covanta incinerator in Haverhill.
Sawyer and her husband, Bill, met the truckdriver there. Sorting through the bags, Sawyer noticed a green container she had used in one of the trash bags. The bag had split open and paper towels were everywhere -- but the first paper towel Bill picked up had the ring inside.
The workers all hugged her, she said, with many leaving their offices to see the ring. Many people lose diamond rings in the trash, Sawyer said Covanta workers told her, but she has been one of only a few to find hers again.
